Icebergs
Project: Icebergs
Location: The National Building Museum, Washington, D.C.
Fabrics Used: Celtic Cloth | Evoke™ Suppression Mesh
Fabrication Lead Time: 6 Weeks
Scope of Work
Ever wonder what it would feel like to lie on the bottom of the ocean floor and gaze up at
icebergs as they float by? This creatively playful, modern, geometric-inspired immersive
exhibition plunged guests deep into the Arctic Ocean to experience just that.
This massive, translucent structure was both beautiful in design and technical execution. One of
the most challenging aspects of this project was that there was no ground support framework;
every element, from the mesh ocean enclosure to the icebergs, was installed using cables.
Fabric pockets were created along each seam of the mesh, masking the aircraft suspension
cables passing through, keeping the fabric taught. A large overhead truss structure was erected
to support the iceberg’s aluminum frames, each skinned with our signature Celtic Cloth that was
illuminated by natural light.
