Scope of Work
In the world of hospitality, creating an environment that leaves a positive, lasting impression on
your guests is critical to success. The three biggest elements in guest satisfaction when rating a
hotel are service, comfort, and design. The artwork chosen throughout the hotel must be on-
brand, contemporary, and reflect its city’s unique landscape and cultural aesthetic.
The Renaissance Hotel in Pittsburgh sought to elevate one of its most high-traffic and visible
areas, the center atrium. This vast, multi-level section is the heart of the hotel, where guests and
visitors congregate and ascend to their rooms at the end of each day. They were looking for
something bold and dynamic that represented the city’s colorful, ever-changing landscape and
the energy of its guests. And what was achieved was nothing short of mesmerizing.
The four-floor backlit graphic was installed in the exposed stairwell. This allowed the installation
team to modify the existing architecture easily, which was a time- and cost-saving solution. We
fabricated the backlit panel on fabric to keep the weight low and help ease the installation. Each
row of LEDs was stitched and adhered to a silicone gasket to ensure it would not pull away from
the fabric over time. The LEDs were programmed to change color slowly throughout the day,
embodying the city's ever-changing landscape. The artwork was beautifully complex, with many
colors, layers, shapes, and textures, and when the lighting would change, it would seemly
transform into something completely different each time.
